A Superior Alternative to Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures, while a common and affordable option, can present several challenges. Limited chewing power, speech difficulties, and social embarrassment due to potential slippage are common issues. The constant movement of dentures can also irritate gums and accelerate bone loss in the jaw. Additionally, the coverage of the palate by upper dentures can trigger a gag reflex in many individuals.
Snap-in implant dentures offer a superior solution by addressing these limitations. By securing the denture to dental implants, they provide enhanced chewing power, improved speech clarity, increased comfort, and preservation of jawbone. The smaller and more stable design of implant-supported dentures often minimizes the gag reflex.
Are You a Candidate for Snap-In Implant Dentures?
The Snap-In Implant Denture Procedure
- Dental Implant Placement: Our dentists will surgically place dental implants into your jawbone.
- Healing Period: Allow sufficient time for the implants to fuse with the bone (osseointegration).
- Abutment Attachment: Once the implants have healed, abutments will be attached to them.
- Denture Creation: Custom-made dentures will be created to fit securely over the abutments.
Recovery After Procedure
To ensure a smooth recovery after your procedure, keep ice packs handy to reduce swelling and discomfort. Disposable washcloths will make cleaning easy, and comfortable, disposable clothing can prevent staining. Stick to a soft food diet, including soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, smoothies, protein shakes, eggs, and mashed potatoes.
While your new implant teeth will be much easier to adapt to than traditional dentures, it will still take some practice. Just like learning to use a prosthetic leg, you may need time to adjust to the feel and function of your new teeth. Initially, you might experience some difficulty with certain sounds, particularly “s” sounds. Practicing words like “Mississippi” and “sixty six” can help. In some cases, a slight lisp may persist long-term.
